Finite beam
WebAbstract Simple, mixed finite element models are developed for the free-vibration analysis of curved, thin- walled beams with arbitrary open cross section. The analytical formulation is based on a linear, Vlasov-type, thin-walled beam theory with the effects of flexural-torsional coupling, transverse shear deformation, and rotary inertia included. Webthis article is on beam formulations which in the author’s opinion constitute the vast majority of FEM analysis conducted by practicing structural engineers. Although the current discussions will be limited to 2D Bernoulli Euler beam formulations, several topics that play a role in more advanced applications will be introduced.
